Established in 1951, IOM is part of the United Nations System as the leading inter-governmental organization promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.
Operational in Indonesia for more than 40 years, IOM Indonesia is one of the largest IOM missions in the world working on a wide range of activities in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, civil society, private sector actors, migrants and communities. IOM Indonesia is engaged in several thematic areas, including Counter-Trafficking, Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion, Disasters, Climate and Resilience, Immigration and Border Governance, Refugee Care, Migration Health, Migration Policy and Data Hub, and Resettlement and Voluntary Returns.
IOM plays a key role in addressing the impacts of climate-related and other crises by providing life-saving humanitarian support and working alongside the government to build systems that enable long-term recovery and resilience. With a strong foundation in the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, IOM supports communities to prevent displacement, reduce disaster risks, and implement sustainable solutions that serve both displaced populations and local communities. Leveraging its migration governance expertise, IOM also works to expand safe migration opportunities promoting regular pathways through strengthened border systems, labour mobility schemes, inclusive services, and institutional capacity building. Its efforts further extend to tackling irregular migration by supporting national efforts to counter human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and other forms of transnational organized crime, while delivering comprehensive protection, return and reintegration support to vulnerable migrants.
IOM’s Mobility & Resilience Unit and Climate Resilience Team work on preparedness and prevention as well as in emergency response in terms of climate-induced displacement. Under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator (MRU), direct supervision of the Senior Project Associate (Climate Resilience), and in collaboration with relevant unit, the Project Assistant will be responsible for supporting the climate migration related programme implementation, particularly in Makassar, Indonesia.
