Back Up Medical Officer position

The United States Peace Corps program in Indonesia is currently open recruitment for qualified and motivated candidates for positions in SURABAYA.

  • Position Title: Intermittent Back-up Medical Officer

  • Salary (per annum): Total compensation for Not to Exceed (NTE) 120 days of service starting at IDR 254,944,032 (+ benefits), negotiable based on salary history and experience.
  • Period of Performance/ Length of Contract/ Work Schedule: The anticipated contract will be for an intermittent contract from 7 September 2025 to 5 September 2026.
  • Place of Performance: Surabaya, with some work and travel to other areas of Indonesia
  • Security Level required: Local Security Certificate

Statement of Work

POSITION FUNCTION:

The required skill level for the back-up provider shall be a physician, nurse practitioner, or under limited circumstances and upon approval by the Credentialing Committee, a registered nurse who will provide clinical care for Peace Corps Volunteers and Trainees in the absence of a Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO) or assist the PCMO during busy times.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The back-up provider shall provide direct patient care, referrals to outside medical consultants or facilities, i.e. hospital or emergency department, depending on the specific in-country arrangements, and assist with administrative duties and health education when indicated. The backup provider will also function as a PCMO and perform any or all of the PCMO duties. The back-up provider shall be available around-the-clock by telephone or be present in the Health Unit. A physician or nurse practitioner back-up provider may also be required to provide consultative or prescriptive services to RN PCMOs.

Written documentation that describes the consultation with a Trainee or Volunteer, care and treatment prescribed/provided, and diagnoses must be documented in the health record.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Physician (shall have a valid, current, active license to practice as a Physician) in one of the 50 United States, OR country where license was obtained.
  • It shall be the responsibility of the Back-up Medical Officer/PCMO-Physician to maintain a current valid license to practice medicine in one of the 50 United States, or country where license was obtained, at all times during the performance period of this contract while serving as a Back-up Medical Officer/PCMO.
  • A minimum of two years of unsupervised, independent clinical experience is required.
  • Deep knowledge of the Indonesian health system
  • Residing and/or having a clinic in greater Surabaya (proximity an hour away from Surabaya) and available to provide prolong health care in Surabaya is definitely an advantage.
  • Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Bahasa Indonesia is required.
