- Position: Field Coordinator – Aceh
- Duty Station: Tapaktuan, Aceh, Indonesia
- Line Manager: Program Manager
- Contract Duration: 12 Months (with possibility of extension)
- Employment Type: Full-time
Overview
SINTAS Indonesia Foundation (SINTAS), founded by well experienced conservation practitioners who have been dedicating their lifetime professional careers in addressing various major conservation issues. SINTAS, means “survive” and stands for Save the Indonesian Nature and Threatened Species, has been established with the realization that the success of conserving the Indonesia natural resources in the long run can only be achieved through a well-rounded leadership of the Indonesian practitioners.
SINTAS believes that through its practical vision and missions, it can promote sustainable development for both the people and nature.
This project builds on prior Panthera-Mubadala supported efforts in Leuser Ecosystem, Southern part of Aceh, aiming to scale up targeted conservation actions outside protected areas. Leveraging robus ecological data and insights from the project’s first phase, the initiative will strengthen partnerships with local communities, deepen understanding of wild cat distribution and movement patterns in modified habitats, and implement locally tailored mitigation strategies. Ultimately, the project seeks to establish community-driven, science-based management approaches that promote coexistence and secure the future of Sumatra’s wild cats across a mosaic of land-use types.
Sumatra’s protected areas are vital strongholds for wild felids, including several globally threatened species. Yet, many wild cat populations persist beyond protected boundaries, increasingly within fragmented, human-dominated landscapes. Despite an 18-year logging moratorium in Aceh, Sumatra continues to face some of the world’s highest deforestation rates. Forests bordering protected areas are routinely degraded and converted to oil palm plantations, gold mining or fragmented by infrastructure expansion. This ongoing habitat loss isolates wild cat populations, intensifies human-wildlife conflict and undermines long-term species survival.
To strengthen our conservation program in Aceh, SIF seeks a passionate and dedicated young professional to serve as a Field Coordinator (FC). The FC is obliged to put in place his/her duties and responsibilities within the organization as the highest priorities to avoid conflicts of interest.
