OVERVIEW
SINTAS Indonesia Foundation (SIF), founded by well experienced conservation practitioners who have been dedicating their lifetime professional careers in addressing various major conservation issues. SINTAS, means “survive” and stands for Save the Indonesian Nature and Threatened Species, has been established with the realization that the success of conserving the Indonesia natural resources in the long run can only be achieved through a well-rounded leadership of the Indonesian practitioners. SINTAS believes that through its practical vision and missions, it can promote a sustainable development for both the people and the nature following the CBD’s principle of fair and equitable sharing of benefits. SIF programs are focus on: (1) Ensuring national leadership in conserving the Indonesian natural resources; (2) put in place sound science interventions to ensure effective natural resources management, and (3) To establishment of effective stakeholders’ partnership to ensure comprehensive sustainable development.
In Java, SIF focus on Javan leopard (Panthera pardus melas) conservation. Endemic to the Indonesian island of Java, Javan leopards are protected under Government Regulation No. 7/1999, listed in CITES Appendix I, categorized as Critically Endangered by the IUCN, and among the 25 national priority species. This project will take place around Mount Muria landscape, Central Java, one of the remaining 22 sub-habitats of the Javan leopard.
This project aims to obtain information on trends over time on the population and distribution of the Javan leopard and its prey in the Mount Muria landscape, assessment of the potential for shrinkage of the Mount Muria forest area as the core area of the Javan leopard and a source of environmental services for the surrounding community and improving the effectiveness of the management of the Javan leopard in Central Java through an active role and increasing public awareness in the conservation of the Javan leopard in Central Java in particular and the island of Java in general.
To strengthen our conservation program in Muria, SIF seeks a passionate and dedicated young professional to serve as a Field Coordinator (FC). The FC is obliged to put in place his/her duties and responsibilities within the organization as the highest priorities to avoid conflicts of interest. As a member of junior staff, s/he will be responsible for managing the overall field activities in this project to achieve high performance and standards.
SCOPE OF WORK:
- Coordination: synchronizes the overall field activity in Mount Muria landscapes to ensure that all project components, including but not limited to, internal resources, business partners, and related parties are integrated and coordinated efficiently and effectively.
- Management: manages the overall field projects resources in Mount Muria landscapes to ensure that project components, including human resources, funding, and equipment, are managed, and implemented efficiently, effectively, and accountably.
- Administration and Reporting: prepares of financial, administrative, and activity reports under his/her responsibility, along with all relevant supporting documentation, both in Indonesian and English (as needed), oral and written.
- Evaluation: Uses KPIs to monitors and evaluates the progress of project implementation in timely manner and prepare yearly report draft.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITY
- Understands thoroughly and deeply the background and objectives of this project.
- Lead implementation of project activities in the field.
- Coordinates and uses project resources efficiently and effectively.
- Ensures that all project reports and documentation are prepared and reported on time with high standards according to the background and objectives of the project.
- Collaborates with Program Manager and Finance Coordinator to ensure budget allocated efficiently and effectively.
- Recruit field employees in accordance with the technical qualifications required by SIF projects.
- Acts as an effective contact person with the local government and SIF’s strategic partners.
- Regularly communicates the progress of the projects to the Program Manager and partners.
- Frequently conduct field visits to ensure project implementation run effectively and according to protocol, including but not limited to camera trapping survey, genetic survey, GPS Collar survey and socialization of leopard conflict mitigation protocol.
Please note that the above TOR constitutes only the main responsibilities and duties of this position. As SIF is a flexible organization, staff members are expected to undertake any other tasks that are allocated to them, which are not part of their regular TOR.
POSITION REQUIREMENT
This is junior position in SIF and will be based in Kudus, Central Java, with regular travel to project sites. The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor (2-years’ experience) or MSc (1-year’s experience) in forestry, biology, environmental, natural science, or related fields.
- Highly passionate, self-motivated, and maintain professionalism.
- Knowledgeable and well-experienced in wildlife inventory and monitoring surveys.
- Experienced in camera trapping survey and analysis is preferable.
- Understand spatial analysis and digital mapping.
- Ability to effectively configure data, manage, process, and analyze data.
- Proven ability to plan and implement conservation science programs and manage associated budgets.
- Good interpersonal skills to deal with a diverse group of contacts (including government and local stakeholders), and the ability to be a team player.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Indonesian and English are essential.
- Having a valid driver’s license with a good driving record is preferred.
