The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. German-Indonesian cooperation in the energy sector has existed for more than 30 years. Starting with rural electrification programs, German technical and financial cooperation today has a broad portfolio that addresses the broader energy transition.
GIZ is currently implementing its Energy Programme through the German-Indonesian Energy Cooperation Hub (Energy Hub), co-financed by BMZ and the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Energy Hub is tasked to consolidate and support representation of the portfolio, support communication and outreach, and provides support to the JETP implementation.
Through the JETP Support Unit as part of the Energy Hub, GIZ provides additional JETP-focused support to both Germany as co-lead as well as to Indonesian partners, notably CMEA and MEMR but also the wider SATGAS TEH constituency. This entails technical support for studies, background analysis for the German embassy with, event facilitation, communications, etc
The Energy Programme works across five thematic areas:
- Power system transformation
- Sustainable energy finance
- Industry decarbonisation
- Island energy solutions
- Just Energy Transition
The programme works through cross-sector collaboration, research, and stakeholder dialogue to align energy strategies with climate goals. The JETPSU team manages a range of activities that require operational discipline, effective coordination, and strong internal communication and collaboration — all areas where this trainee will contribute directly.

Trainee on Project Implementation Support
Responsibilities
The trainee will contribute to the effective execution of JETP SU programme activities and the broader GIZ Indonesia Energy Programme. The traineeship program will provide benefits to deepen knowledge on practical experience on supporting the key elements of project operations and knowledge management in international cooperation. It can also broaden his/her understanding on energy transition in Indonesia.
The trainee will support the daily coordination and communication functions of the JETP SU team, with direct supervision from Advisor. This role includes both technical and operational contributions, with emphasis on providing support to ad-hoc requests and knowledge product creation related to JETP in Indonesia.
The traineeship will be specifically accountable for the following areas, but not limited to:
- Support to collect, organize, and prepare knowledge product’s content related to project impacts and ongoing collaboration based on ad-hoc requests by the political partners.
- Contribution to internal communication materials, especially related to reporting, coordination, and knowledge sharing.
- Monitor and analyse current and new relevant JETP related publications, legislation and regulations in Indonesia and globally as well as their impact as basis for advisory work.
- Coordinate with related advisors to ensure that information materials/ knowledge products are prepared and submitted as required.
- Contribute to communications materials such as reports, analysis, brochures, policy briefs and recommendations for in and external audiences, and other documents.
- Support event/ workshop preparations such as materials, participant lists, report’s submission, event/workshop facilitation and post-event documentations.
- Under the guidance of the JETP SU coordinator, support the German embassy in their JETP co-lead role through IPG/GFANZ meeting coordination, analysis and research, and preparation of background materials, and any ad-hoc requests.
Required qualifications, competences, and experience.
- Fresh graduate, bachelor’s degree or final year master’s student in energy studies, environment, international relations, public policy, social science, or other relevant fields.
- Basic knowledge and familiarity on energy transition or power sector and environmental issues and policies, particularly in Indonesia.
- Prior exposure to project management methodologies, organizational skills would be advantageous.
- Experience in conducting desk research, assisting on management, and working on data analysis and visualization will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and other standard collaboration tools
- Good communication, organizational and project management skills.
- Good command of Ms. Office, which include Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, especially Teams.
- Proficiency in English and excellent writing skills.
- Comfortable preparing and reviewing written materials such as briefings, reports, or summaries
- Able to work independently, while coordinating regularly with supervisors and team members and adapt to an international working environment.

Working Hours: 5 working days per week, 8 working hours per day
