As we are constantly expanding, we are currently hiring to fill the following position for our office in Jakarta:

LSMPA Data Analyst (Code: LDA)

Konservasi Indonesia (KI), in partnership with the Blue Nature Alliance (BNA), is supporting the Government of Indonesia in establishing the Western Sumatra MPA Network and the Banda Sea LSMPA as part of the national Marine Protected Area (MPA) Vision 30×45. This work requires strong scientific, technical, and data‑driven support to consolidate, analyse, and visualize biological, ecological, socio‑economic, and spatial data relevant to LSMPA planning and establishment.

The LSMPA Data Analyst will serve as the core technical focal point responsible for managing, curating, synthesizing and visualizing multidisciplinary datasets needed for LSMPA planning. He/she will maintain the LSMPA data inventory, prepare analyses, data visualization, develop dashboards for decision‑makers, and ensure compliance with KI standards. The position will play a critical role in supporting decision making, technical assessments, zoning development, field data compilation, reporting and coordination.

He/she must have strong analytical, computational skills, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to translate complex datasets into clear, accessible outputs for diverse governmental and non‑governmental stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Management & Curation

  • Develop, compile, maintain, and regularly update the LSMPA data inventory (including KIFA database), covering ecological, biophysical, socio‑economic, and governance datasets.
  • Organize and manage centralized databases and repositories, ensuring structured archiving, metadata completeness, and version control.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with KI data ethics, and Quality Assessment (QA) standards.

Data Analysis & Technical Support

  • Compile, review, and synthesize datasets required for LSMPA design, including biophysical, ecological, socio‑economic, governance and spatial‑use layers.
  • Support ecological and socio‑economic assessments by preparing analyses, summary tables, and data integration outputs.

Data Visualization

  • Produce data visualizations, high‑quality dashboards, and other products for reports, workshops, and government submissions.

Coordination & Collaboration

  • Support data sharing, documentation, and gap analysis for LSMPA data.
  • Coordinate with KI ecoregion teams, MMAF, BRIN, academic partners, NGOs, and other stakeholders to collect datasets and validate information.
  • Support field missions by organizing data needs, incorporating field results, and updating relevant databases.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare accurate and timely data summaries, dashboards, and visual products supporting KI technical deliverables.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, progress updates, and donor reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required (critical to successful job performance.  Applicants not meeting required skills may not be hired)

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in marine science, environmental science, mathematics, computer science, data science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with data science, data visualization, experience supporting MPA or marine projects is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in data management, data visualization, and software development.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience handling complex datasets preferably in marine science.
  • Excellent communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working on interdisciplinary projects, preferably involving ecology, fisheries, social science, and governance.
  • Familiarity with Indonesian marine and fisheries governance frameworks is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, dependability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate complex data in a clear and accessible way to non-technical audiences.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a typical office environment which requires visits to field sites in Western Sumatra, Banda Sea, and other locations as needed.
  • Flexibility to work flexible hours to support cross-time-zones coordination with partners.
