As we are constantly expanding, we are currently hiring to fill the following position for our office in Jakarta:
Banda LSMPA Coordinator
(Code: BLS MPA – C)
Konservasi Indonesia, in partnership with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and the Blue Nature Alliance (BNA), is supporting the legal establishment and capacity development for a large-scale offshore Marine Protected Area (LSMPA): the Banda Sea LSMPA (126,645 km²). This BNA Phase 2 engagement focuses on scientific, technical, and stakeholder engagement processes leading to legal establishment, capacity building, and economic feasibility assessments.
Konservasi Indonesia (KI) is seeking a qualified individual as Banda LSMPA Coordinator to support the implementation of the BNA Phase 2 Project in the Banda Sea LSMPA. This role will coordinate local implementation of MPA establishment, stakeholder engagement, cost-benefit analyses, and capacity building activities. As part of the Ocean Program team, the coordinator will report to the Marine Ecology Manager and work closely with national and local stakeholders to ensure alignment with marine policy and project objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
MPA Establishment
- Coordinate ecological assessments and technical preparation aligned with Ministerial Regulation No. 31/2020.
- Facilitate structured stakeholder consultations and consensus-building across the target provinces.
- Support preparation of zonation plans and institutional arrangements for MPA proposals.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build trust-based relationships with provincial governments, coastal communities, and relevant NGOs.
- Coordinate site-level engagement with subgrantees and partners (e.g., ICCF, Rekam Nusantara).
- Ensure integration of community input and socio-economic considerations into MPA designs.
Capacity Building
- Assist in delivering training and mentoring for local leaders, government partners, and community MPA groups.
- Coordinate support for local trainees involved in MPA or fisheries governance capacity development.
Cost-Benefit Analysis
- Support data gathering for site-specific ecological and economic assessments.
- Liaise with technical partners and provide logistical and contextual support for research activities.
- Help translate results into actionable policy and management recommendations.
Project Coordination and Reporting
- Monitor progress, maintain documentation, and support reporting requirements to the Marine Ecology Manager.
- Contribute to site-level planning, budgeting, and adaptive management in coordination with the Ocean Program team.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to organizing technical meetings, workshops, and training courses on MPA related topics.
- Assist in identifying and developing tools and resources that help build capacity and advance KI’s policy, science, and program development agenda.
- Maintain project files and related databases. Secure information and data with appropriate back-up procedures.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in marine science, conservation, environmental policy, or related field.
- Five years of relevant experience in marine conservation, preferably working with MPAs or similar protected areas.
- Strong understanding of Indonesia’s marine governance and MPA regulations.
- Demonstrated experience with stakeholder engagement and participatory planning.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and coordination skills.
- Ability to travel frequently within assigned site region and to project workshops.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.

WORKING CONDITIONS
