Together with YKAN,The Senior Director, Indonesia Oceans Program leads YKAN’s oceans portfolio, providing strategic direction, leadership, and oversight to deliver conservation and community impact while ensuring strong partnerships, sustainable funding, operational excellence, and organizational effectiveness. Reporting to the Executive Director, the role leads multidisciplinary teams, engages with government, donors, communities, and partners, contributes to organization-wide leadership and strategy, and represents YKAN externally to advance a sustainable and inclusive ocean conservation agenda.

The Senior Director, Indonesia Oceans Program provides strategic leadership and oversight of YKAN’s oceans portfolio, ensuring the delivery of conservation, community, policy, and sustainable development outcomes. The role leads program strategy, partnerships, funding, financial stewardship, people management, risk management, and external representation, while working closely with government, donors, communities, research institutions, and internal teams to maximize conservation impact, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and support YKAN’s long-term sustainability.

The Senior Director reports to the Executive Director and is based in Jakarta.

What You’ll Bring:

  • BA/BS degree and 12 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience, including significant senior leadership experience leading large, multidisciplinary programs, teams, or portfolios.
  • Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and directing complex or multiple projects of strategic importance, including managing finances, supervising multidisciplinary professionals and coordinating the work of partners while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience working with current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and geographic regions.
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
  • Experience networking with high level conservation contacts.
  • Experience working with methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives.
  • Experience conceiving and implementing strategic and creative initiatives.
  • Experience negotiating.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
  • This position is open to Indonesian nationals only.
