Full-time Researcher for The Habibie Center
Research on P/CVE (Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism)
Background
The Habibie Center, supported by UNICEF, is currently undertaking a research project entitled: “Strengthening Local Government and Community Preparedness for the Reintegration of Child Deportees and Returnees.” This project aims to strengthen the capacity of local governments and communities in Central Java to support the reintegration of child deportees and returnees. Therefore, we are seeking a dedicated researcher to engage in all phases of the research process, culminating in the dissemination of findings at the national level.
The project duration is from June to December 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive research and data management on Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE) issues.
- Collaborate with the local team to carry out fieldwork in Central Java province.
- Organise data collection processes, including interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and surveys.
- Analyse data gathered from literature reviews and fieldwork.
- Draft research reports in both English and Indonesian on P/CVE-related topics.
- Write research publications addressing P/CVE issues.
- Organise national-level research dissemination events with team members.
- Provide insights and assistance in determining relevant and current P/CVE issues.
- Complete all project deliverables on time as scheduled.
- Assist The Habibie Center with additional program activities and events as needed.
- A Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Sociology, Political Science, International Relations, Religious Studies, Psychology or other related disciplines; a Master’s degree is preferred
- Minimum 2 years of research experience in P/CVE, employing both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Strong understanding of P/CVE issues. A particular interest in the intersection of gender and children in violent extremism is a plus
- Proven ability to conduct in-depth interviews, surveys, and FGDs, and strong report writing skills.
- Knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation frameworks is advantageous.
- Experience organising national-level events, including research dissemination and seminars (online, offline, and hybrid).
- Strong project planning and management abilities.
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- High integrity and professionalism, with the capability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Fluent in both spoken and written English.
- Previous work experience in Central Java Province is a plus.
Duty Station: Jakarta
Contract Duration: This is a full-time position (5 days / 40 hours per week), with a 6 months contract and potentially extended based on performance. Expected to start in early June 2025.
