OVERVIEW
SINTAS Indonesia Foundation (SINTAS), founded by well experienced conservation practitioners who have been dedicating their lifetime professional careers in addressing various major conservation issues. SINTAS, means “survive” and stands for Save the Indonesian Nature and Threatened Species, has been established with the realization that the success of conserving the Indonesia natural resources in the long run can only be achieved through a well-rounded leadership of the Indonesian practitioners. SINTAS believes that through its practical vision and missions, it can promote a sustainable development for both the people and the nature following the CBD’s principle of fair and equitable sharing of benefits. SINTAS programs are focus on: (1) Ensuring national leadership in conserving the Indonesian natural resources; (2) Put in place sound science interventions to ensure effective natural resources management, and (3) To establishment of effective stakeholders’ partnership to ensure comprehensive sustainable development.
Currently, the SINTAS’s program focuses on site-level conservation in Aceh, West Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, and East Java, with a projected development cross-provincial and island levels. At national level, SINTAS supports the national government in protected area management, species conservation, law enforcement, and education as well as community empowerment. To strengthen our Project in Java, SINTAS seeks a passionate and dedicated young professional to serve as a Database Assistant (DA). The role of the Database will focus on data entry and clasification data from Camera Trap.
SCOPE OF WORK
- Coordination: Ensuring data is well-organized according to the database structure
- Management: manages data storage and related project resources to ensure that data management are implemented efficiently, effectively, and accountably.
- Administration and Reporting: prepares financial, administrative, and activity reports under his/her responsibility, along with all relevant supporting documentation, both in Indonesian and English (as needed), oral and written.
- Evaluation: Uses the data management protocol as guideline to monitor and evaluate the flow of data management and achieve target in a timely manner.
DURATION
Contract is expected to run for 14 months, starting from 19 May 2025 until 30 June 2026.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITY
- Provide support on data management, including but not limited to data compilation, data storage, database input and analysis.
- Prepare project material relevant to data management on time with high standards, including but not limited to ToR, training material, protocol, reports, and documentation.
- Work together with GIS Officer and Field Teams to ensure all data and information from the field (e.g. camera trap data, spatial data, survey documentation) follows protocol.
- Review data files from the fields and conduct basic data cleaning to ensure all observations are identified, consistent and accurate.
- Provide technical support and training related to field data collection and database management for internal team and SINTAS partners.
- Regularly communicate the progress of the data management to the Field Coordinator.
- Identify and develop new methods of data compilation, data logging, and analysis, using new database systems such as smart phones, online tools, and websites.
- Ensure confidentiality of data and project materials.
- Together with the Communication Officer, compile photos for educational materials and conservation awareness campaigns.
Please note that the above TOR constitutes only the main responsibilities and duties of this position. As SINTAS is a flexible organization, staff members are expected to undertake any other tasks that are allocated to them, which are not part of their regular TOR.
POSITION REQUIREMENT
This is a junior position in SINTAS and based in Bogor West Java, with regular travel to project sites in East Java. The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor (2 years’ experience) in biology, conservation biology, forestry, natural resources management, statistics, or related fields.
- Highly passionate, self-motivated, and maintain professionalism.
- Experienced in conducting, managing, and designing field work and data collection for empirical biological research.
- Knowledgeable and experienced in wildlife inventory and monitoring survey, spatial software, and basic statistic analytics are preferable.
- Candidates who understand GIS, remote sensing, and navigation technique are preferred.
- Highly initiatives, able to work with no or little supervision.
- Good interpersonal skills and be a team player.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively.
