The position is an exciting opportunity to take a senior executive role in the management and delivery of Proforest’s work including landscape work in Jambi and other places. The position is based in Proforest Office in Jakarta, Indonesia with frequent travel to relevant regions in Indonesia. All applicants are expected to have the necessary rights/permit to work in Indonesia.
This position involves coordinating the day-to-day operations of Proforest Projects and Programmes, overseeing the delivery of activities conducted by Proforest team, partners, and subcontractors in selected regions in Indonesia. The position will provide a range of services including, but not limited to: client and stakeholder liaison, landscape projects planning and implementation, reporting, quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation, financial management and reporting, budget control, and risk management. The Senior Project Manager will be reporting to Department Lead within Proforest Southeast Asia.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Project Manager, this position shall include the following responsibilities:
Projects/Programmes Management & Delivery:
- Oversee and ensure the successful delivery of all activities within the projects and programmes for clients/grant funders, encompassing all stages from proposal writing and budgeting to projects implementation and final report writing.
- Ensure the assigned projects meet quality standards, timelines, and client expectations while adhering to Proforest’s operational procedures.
- Ensure adaptive management of projects in response to evolving landscape, stakeholder, and regulatory dynamics.
Policy and Strategic Awareness:
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of policies and strategic factors that may impact the delivery of the objectives of the projects and programmes, including, but not limited to the FSC procedure for Remedy, any other FSC policies and documents, as well as any relevant government and international regulations.
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to guide the projects and programmes and advise partner organisation and the company effectively.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder platforms and support landscape governance mechanisms to enable collective action and shared responsibility across supply chains.multi-stakeholder forums.
- Proactively engage in partnerships that support and advance the projects and programmes objectives.
Monitoring & Oversight:
- Provide monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) processes to track impact, inform adaptive management, and improve programme effectiveness in collaboration with Project Coordination Team (PCT).
- Results of the monitoring and evaluation, as well as follow up actions will be reported to the clients, funders, or Steering Committee on a regular basis.
- Ensuring effective collaboration and knowledge-sharing amongst partners in projects and programmes.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills: Essential Qualifications, Experience, Skills:
- Tertiary level qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. natural resources management, social sciences, economics, human rights, agriculture, forestry).
- At least 8 years of working experience in, or closely with, international agricultural and/or forestry supply chains
- Local Expertise: Prior work experience within Indonesia region, providing insight into local dynamics, challenges, and best practices related to sustainable development in forestry and agriculture.
- Demonstrated strength in leadership and project management, with highly developed time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills to manage complex, multi-phase projects efficiently.
- Interpersonal and Cross-Cultural Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team and thrive in a multi-cultural environment. Proven experience in managing diverse stakeholder relationships effectively.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia, with the ability to deliver oral presentations and produce high-quality reports.
- Reliability Under Pressure: Proven track record of meeting tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and high standards of quality.
Highly desirable:
Experience in Agricultural or Forestry Commodities:
- Practical experience in the production and supply chain of agricultural or forestry commodities, particularly within Indonesia. This includes understanding regional nuances, challenges, and opportunities through collaboration amongst companies within the same landscape.
Knowledge of Sustainability Standards and Certification:
- Proven experience or solid knowledge related to sustainability standards, auditing, and certification, especially in the context of remedy or compensation on natural resource.
Expertise in Relevant Environmental and Social Issues:
- Familiarity with one or more of the following key areas: forest restoration, human rights, regenerative agriculture, conservation and land use planning, community development and livelihood, or sustainable financing. This demonstrates a well-rounded approach to environmental and social sustainability challenges.
Stakeholder Engagement & Consultation:
- Strong experience in consulting and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including large corporations, small and medium enterprises, NGOs, financing institutions, government agencies, smallholders, and local communities. This skill is vital for facilitating collaborative solutions and advancing landscape programme goals.
Familiarity with Sustainability Tools and Methodologies:
- Knowledge and practical experience with tools and methodologies that support the sustainable landscape production of agricultural and forestry commodities.
Ability on Project Management:
- Familiarity on project management through various tools and/or possess certification on project management.
