Communications Manager – Indonesia

About the Role
Ishk Tolaram Foundation is seeking a dynamic Communications Manager to lead the design and execution of strategic communications and public engagement initiatives across our education and healthcare programs in Indonesia.
This role is responsible for translating the Foundation’s program impact into compelling narratives and campaigns that strengthen credibility, build partnerships, and expand awareness of our work. The Communications Manager will work closely with program teams to transform program milestones, learning insights, and community stories into meaningful communications that engage educators, government partners, donors, and the wider social impact ecosystem.
The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking, strong storytelling skills, creative design capability, and excellent execution, helping position the Foundation as a trusted and thoughtful contributor to education and social development in Indonesia.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Strategic Communications and Campaign Development
- Develop and execute the Foundation’s communications strategy for Indonesia, aligned with organizational priorities in education and healthcare.
- Design and implement integrated communications campaigns to support major program initiatives, milestones, and partnerships.
- Translate program achievements and insights into compelling narratives that strengthen the Foundation’s visibility and credibility.
- Identify opportunities to position the Foundation within Indonesia’s education and social impact ecosystem through storytelling, partnerships, and thought leadership.
Design and Produce Creative Content
- Lead the development of high-quality communications materials including:
- Campaign visuals and graphics
- Social media content and storytelling posts
- Short videos and multimedia content
- Event and program collateral
- Brochures, reports, and publications
- Ensure visual and written communications are aligned with the Foundation’s brand identity and values.
- Develop creative briefs and independently produce day-to-day or small-scale communication materials (e.g., social media posts) using practical design tools (Canva, CapCut, etc.).
Execute Multi-Channel Communications Campaigns
- Manage and execute a comprehensive editorial calendar for social media platforms, website content updates, and the distribution of monthly/quarterly newsletters.
- Define and achieve specific, measurable growth targets (KPIs) per quarter, such as targeted percentage increases in follower count, engagement rate, website traffic, and newsletter open rates.
- Evaluate monthly digital analytics reports to continuously optimize and adjust content strategies.
Strengthen Stakeholder and Media Engagement
- Build and maintain an active, up-to-date database of journalists and media contacts from local and national outlets (specifically targeting education, healthcare, and philanthropy desks).
- Draft and distribute press releases or media pitches strategically, aiming to achieve an agreed-upon annual target for PR Value and positive media mentions.
- Proactively identify, pitch, and facilitate at least 2-3 opportunities per year for Foundation representatives to participate in relevant public forums, panel discussions, or conferences.
- Support strategic communications with key stakeholders, including:
- Government agencies
- District education offices
- Educators and school leaders
- Community partners
- Philanthropic and development partners.
Support Program Communications and Events
- Develop specialized digital campaign strategies for both Healthcare outreach and Education programs, translating complex medical, health, and educational information into accessible, engaging digital content for the wider community.
- Work closely with program teams to develop communications for key initiatives including:
- Teacher training and professional development programs
- School leadership initiatives
- Community education programs
Healthcare outreach and awareness campaigns
- Document program activities and translate them into impact stories and campaign content.
- Support communications for major program events, graduations, and public engagements.
Lead Impact Storytelling and Reporting
- Lead the development of impact communication materials, including:
- Annual and program reports
- Case studies and success stories
- Learning briefs and program highlights
- Collaborate closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team to translate technical program data into accessible, high-quality case studies or success stories.
- Generate comprehensive digital campaign reports specifically prioritizing Healthcare and Education programs, analyzing digital media metrics (e.g., reach, engagement, impressions, and audience growth) to continuously evaluate and improve the effectiveness of these core initiatives.
7. Strengthen Internal Communications and Brand Alignment
- Ensure consistent and accurate representation of the Foundation across all communications channels.
- Support team members in becoming effective ambassadors of the Foundation’s work and values.
- Develop simple communications guidelines and support internal teams in implementing them.
Skills and Competencies
- Exceptional writing and storytelling ability in English and Bahasa Indonesia
- Strong visual communication and design skills
- Experience developing and executing communications campaigns

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Media, Development Studies, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or social impact communications
- Experience working in nonprofit, development, education, or healthcare sectors is highly desirable
- Demonstrated experience designing and executing communications campaigns
- Experience engaging diverse stakeholders including partners, government, and community organizations.
