  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • Status: Full-Time (40 hours/week), 1-year Contract with the possibility to extend.
  • Location: Sukadana, Kab. Kayong Utara, Kalimantan Barat
  • Timeline: start as soon as posible.
  • Salary & Benefits: Rp. 10.000.000-13.000.000, BPJS Kesehatan, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, lunch on working days, housing.

BACKGROUND

ASRI works to conserve the biodiversity of tropical rainforests by meeting the health and economic needs of surrounding communities. Since 2007, ASRI has worked near Gunung Palung National Park (GPNP), a 108,000-hectare rain forest in western Borneo that serves as home to 5-10% of the world’s remaining orangutans and a watershed for 60,000 people. The ASRI Clinic, and our future hospital, provide high-quality, discounted health care to local communities in exchange for commitments to forest conservation. ASRI is a world-renowned organization that has been recognized with multiple awards globally and within Indonesia including the Kalpataru Award. Our integrated work with human health and conservation has brought about a dramatic decline in logging.

We are looking for Program Director to oversee, support and manage the followings program: (i) Conservation Programs, including Reforestation of critical orangutan habitat, community garden, and degraded lowland rainforest; Sustainable agriculture extension work and agricultural product marketing; Microenterprise program for the logger to become entrepreneurs through chainsaw buyback program; Goats for widows (livestock husbandry); Deforestation and illegal logging monitoring, Forest guardians and community organizing and capacity building; (ii) Education and community outreach programs, including ASRI Kids and Teens, Community outreach, Planetary health camp and field trip, exchange program, volunteering, and internship; and (iii) Replication programs Process.

Program Director will participate collegially and analytically in the Management Team’s strategic leadership of ASRI.

ESSENTIALS OF THIS ROLE

  • Responsible for the success of these programs: conservation, education, research, and exchange programs in GPNP and another potential replication site (s). Directs and supervises the work of each manager on each program.
  • Leading annual work planning processes for all of the programs under his/her supervision and facilitating long-term strategic planning processes for GPNP and other potential replication sites.
  • Working with the Grant Manager to author, review, and finalize grant proposal and report supporting all ASRI non-health program activities
  • Ensure the tracking of program updates is timely and easy to be accessed by ASRI Executive Director and HIH
  • Ensure the monitoring and evaluation system runs effectively
  • Representing ASRI at local, national, and international level forums relevant to building our networks and scaling up our impact
  • Building partnerships and maintaining positive relationships with all ASRI stakeholders at local, national, and international levels.
  • Provide support for ASRI’s fundraising efforts.
  • Liaising with our partner organization, Health in Harmony, through providing timely updates, information, feedback, and evaluation on programs under his/her supervision.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Have a Master’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Management, Agriculture, Sustainability, or any International Development related field.
  • At least five years or more of relevant work experience in the field of conservation, climate change, education, and economic development initiatives
  • Advanced network of potential partners, collaborators, or other relevant stakeholders
  • Statistical analysis and data management experience.
  • Track record of developing successful grant and funding proposal
  • Experience in working in small teams, ideally within an international and multicultural context
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, Proven ability to seek out new ideas, and ability to implement new initiatives
  • Ability and experience working in (and/or virtually) with partners in other countries

DEMONSTRATED SKILL

  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership abilities
  • Strong crisis management and conflict mediation skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written command of English
  • Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint are essential
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-orientation
  • Grant management systems and working with a fundraising database
  • Coordinating activities with other internal departments and/or external organizations
  • Strong track record of developing and monitoring budgets
  • Monitoring and evaluation methods (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Monitoring compliance with applicable proposals, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Working with diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of our staff and partners
  • Utilizing computer technology for communication, data gathering, and reporting activities
