Context:

Operational in Indonesia for more than 40 years, IOM Indonesia is one of IOM’s large missions in the world working on a wide range of activities in partnership with the Government of Indonesia, civil society, private sector actors, migrants and communities. IOM Indonesia is engaged in several thematic areas, including: Counter-Trafficking Labour Migration/Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion (CT-LM/LMSI), Disasters, Climate and Resilience (DCR), Immigration and Border Governance (IBG), Refugee Care, Migration Health, Migration Policy and Data Hub, and Resettlement and Voluntary Returns.

IOM Indonesia aims to improve the quality of care for refugees and asylum seekers referred to IOM by the Government of Indonesia according to applicable international humanitarian and human rights standards. IOM also contributes to the increased protection of vulnerable subgroups of displaced persons, such as unaccompanied migrant children (UMCs), victims of sexual and gender-based violence, pregnant women, and the elderly, among others, through the establishment of referral mechanisms involving the active participation of specialized state and non-state service providers.

The Migration Policy and Data Hub Unit aims to enhance migration governance in Indonesia by supporting government capacities in evidence-based, gender responsive migration management at national and sub-national level. The programme will be implemented jointly with UN Women and UNDP, with IOM being the convening agency. Under the overall supervision of the Programme Support Officer, and the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer, the Migration Governance Intern will provide assistance to the Migration Governance unit to support the overall implementation of the programme, preparation of policy documents, guideline documents, and reports.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Under the guidance of the National Programme Officer, assist in activities related to implementation of IOM’s current portfolio of Migration Governance Projects, this may include:

  • Supporting day to day implementation of project activities in coordination with the IOM project team and implementing partners.
  • Undertake research to expand the evidence-base of thematic migration issues related to IOM’s work in Indonesia which will contribute to the Migration Governance Indicators assessment and be used to develop a Migration Profile for Indonesia, with a view to assisting in the formulation of policy and guidance documents.
  • Assist in drafting policy papers, reports, minutes meeting, fact sheets, guidance notes, presentation, documentation, and briefs and other relevant IEC materials on key migration themes under the Global Compact for Migration.
  • Support in preparing regular progress and status reports and updates to contribute to the donor narrative and capture best practices and lessons learnt.
  • Assist in the drafting, proofreading and translating of concept notes, project proposals, and other programme related documents in coordination with the Programme Support Unit team and relevant units.
  • Participate in relevant technical working groups and project meetings with programme stakeholders.
  • Document meeting notes, activity reports and help to synthesize programme information and data into the programme knowledge management platform.
  • Being Familiar with IOM administration policies and provide administrative support for Migration Governance Unit.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned as deemed relevant for the learning area of the internship.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Final year student or recent university degree graduate in Political/ Social Sciences, Law, International Relations or a related field from an accredited academic institution.

Experience

  • Relevant professional or volunteer experience with civil society organizations, volunteer groups, is an advantage.

Skills

  • High level of computer literacy is required, especially on graphic design and photo/video editing related software, such as Canva;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe In-Design;
  • Flexible and open to learning new experiences;
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
  • Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others;
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.

Language

Proficient in English and Bahasa Indonesia, both oral and written.
